Today is the birthday of the amazing Lee Bennett Hopkins! Happy birthday, dear Lee. I am so happy to join in the Lee-day celebration hosted by Robyn Hood Black at her blog today for Poetry Friday. See you all there!

I'll bet it was hard to pick just three to feature today! Thanks for these perfect party gifts, Sylvia. Wise words and the devoted life to back them up.

It is so nice to see Lee's important words wrapped up with pretty graphics for his birthday. I was starving for this poetry community and finally found it so late in my teaching career. I loved what I saw poetry doing for kids and felt pretty alone. Now it is a thanksgiving every Friday, every April, every new anthology by Lee or those inspired by him like Janet's and yours. And new poetry books by so many talented poets who like Lee are wordsmiths and who honor children with all kinds of poems that matter; spreading poetry love and respect which Lee has done his entire career beginning as a teacher. Inspired to bring the best to children. So welcoming all of you. I feel rich in poetry love every day and it lifts my life. And I continue to sub so I can share poetry with kids, even for a moment. Thank you from the heart.

I'm with Robyn. I feel like I'm walking away with a goodie bag at the end of the party. Thanks for sending us off with a treat. :D

Thanks for sharing these three inspiring quotes from Lee Bennett Hopkins, I especially like, "There shouldn't be a day without poetry!"
